Putting trends into practice!

Spring-summer’s beauty trends are staring out at us from the covers of magazines and adorning the catwalks. The question is: which one will you follow? Will you opt for sweet pastel-shaded lips, make a statement with fluorescent-coloured nails, or are you more of a ‘natural glow’ girl? Perhaps you’ll just go for a different style every day? Why not? This season, there’s a lot going on.

But taking time out of your busy daily life to discover which of these new beauty trends is best for you may not be that easy. Fortunately, we’ve come up with a solution. Read our trend tips below and before you know it, you’ve incorporated the latest catwalk beauty trends into your everyday makeup routine!

Pastel Perfection

There’s no denying it: pastels are making a comeback this season. In a big way... Create an eye-catching look with Shmink’s Capture eyeshadow. Go for the mix and match effect: add a hint of lilac to a hazy pink, and finish off with a touch of fresh orange.

TIP: Colour blocking with pastels is the way to go this season, so combine several cute shades (Shmink Capture, Ilios and Jardin) as opposed to just using one.

Bambi Eyebrows

This season, the sky’s the limit when it comes to eyebrows. From barely there to artful arches or the striking, strongly drawn irregular eyebrows that were spotted on the catwalks, anything is possible.

TIP: For something a little different, darken your eyebrows, forego the eyeshadow, and apply some mascara. Next, draw a black kohl line along the lower lashes with one of Lord & Berry’s eyeliners and voilà... a vamp is born!

Soft kiss

The perfect pout this spring-summer is vibrantly coloured. Whether you paint your lips red, pink, orange or blue, just make sure they stand out. But don’t forget those lovely pastels too. Reach for coral, as opposed to that bright orange, from time to time for a warmer look. Try Santorini Lipstick or Gotcha Lip Gloss, both by Shmink, in instances such as these.

TIP: Ensure your kiss is soft and sweet, and avoid those dry lines and cracks. Au naturel, your lips are already a thing of pure beauty, so take good care of them with a colourless lip balm, such as Karen Murrell’s Moisture Stick Lip Balm. When you do colour them, apply a layer of lip balm first and let it sink in. Then, apply several layers of lipstick on top.

Smooth Operator

Fresh, chic and oh-so-easy. This spring-summer, you can take to the streets as a ‘natural beauty’ without too much fuss. All you need to create this coveted look is a light layer of foundation. Choose Shmink’s pro-shear foundation, which creates a lovely radiant glow. But remember: What lies beneath is just as important as what you add on top. The better your skin, the easier it is for your foundation to do its work.

Tip: Give yourself a healthy, subtle pink glow. Enhance your cheekbones and give your face some ‘shape’ with Razzberry blush from Shmink. To avoid that over-the-top doll look, simply suck in your cheeks and apply a small amount to your cheekbones with a large brush.

Artistic Painting

There are two sides to the lacquer story this coming season. Handfuls of instant happiness can be found in pastel colours, such as the soft and sweet colours of Laqa & Co.’s I Want A Pony, Birthday Suit and USLU Airlines’ MAU. Lovers of the bright are also well catered for with powerful colours that’ll make your mouth water. Go for dazzling green, bright orange (USLU Airlines’ JAG and COR), or dahlia purple (Laqa & Co.’s Blurple).

TIP: When push comes to shove, you don’t even really need to choose one varnish because multiple colours on one nail are also an option. Just be sure to have fun!

Hopefully, we’ve inspired you in some way. So ‘make up’ your mind and start shopping for a colourful and happy summer! ☺
