Vanderohe, beauty is in the detail
Multi-award winner Vanderohe concentrates 100% on developing the most sophisticated skincare with the world’s purest, organic ingredients. Not only does your skin benefit from Vanderohe, our beautiful planet does too. “We are unique in the fact that we get all our oils from their country of origin,” says Oliva Thorpe, the founder of Vanderohe. “Scientific research shows that this leads to a higher quality of oil, with an even more powerful effect.”

All of our oils are sourced from the countries where the plants have optimal conditions for growth, to ensure that they have optimal benefits for your skin. Each of our oils has been chosen for its unique skin-healing and mood-enhancing properties. Thanks to the synergistic reaction upon blending these oils, their properties become even more potent: it is at once balancing, anti-inflammatory, anti-ageing, moisture-boosting and skin-strengthening, with notable results in reducing redness, scarring and pigmentation.

Vanderohe has taken over a year to sample oils from different producers in order to secure the highest quality we could find around the world. Each of our ingredients are certified by the strictest requirements of organic farming, involving frequent and consistent monitoring and inspection. In this way, we are choosing oils whose farming helps to build soil fertility, minimise pollution and damage to the environment, respect animal welfare and avoid all chemical additives. Establishing that your skincare oil has been certified organic and pure is the best safeguard you can make to ensure that you don’t fall victim to the many unscrupulous practices that go on in the beauty industry.Where an ingredient is not certified organic, it is simply because that plant only grows wild, and in this case it will be certified pure and wild-crafted. Uniquely, we source each of our oils from their true country of origin as scientific research has proven that this leads to a better quality oil and one with more potent benefits than the same plant grown outside of its native soil.As we are beholden to natural seasonal changes in crops and production, there may be subtle differences in colour and scent between serums. Our serum is bottled in Miron glass; a unique, dark violet glass that, using the science of biophotonics, maintains and even prolongs the potency of the ingredients.
WHY OILS
Our skin acts as a barrier, detoxifier and regenerator, constantly working to keep out the bad and absorb, maintain and reproduce the good.Healthy skin will be skin where all these functions are working in perfect harmony: a “balanced” skin. Any imbalance can lead to breakouts, clogged pores, dry and flaky skin or sensitivities.SimplifyUnfortunately, consumers are encouraged to use an array of different skincare products as part of a modern beauty regime. These can include harsh cleansers and exfoliators, overnight masks and at-home skin peels. Overcomplicating our skincare regime in this way, and using products that actually work against the natural functioning of our skin cells instead of helping them, will disrupt the balance of our skin. Typical skin creams contain around 70 percent water, so preservatives, chemicals and perfumes are added to the product in order to eliminate bacterial growth, increase the shelf life and achieve an appealing scent. These additives will increase the chances of skin irritation and allergic reaction and the low content of pure natural goodness (if there is any at all) will be so minimal as to be ineffective to your skin. Oils allow us to cut the chemicals out and feed our skin only the good stuff.NutritionPlant oils have been used for centuries to help treat skin ailments and boost skin radiance, but it is only recently that consumers have started to understand the benefits of using a face oil over other more “sophisticated”, synthetic products. Not only do pure plant oils not contain the large quantity of skin-disrupting, synthetic chemicals that other products do, but they are packed with goodness that our skin understands, recognizes and knows how to instantly metabolize. Plant oils are essentially clean eating for our skin: they provide the most nutrition – and the healthiest – we could want to feed our skin. Thanks to the small molecular structure of natural plant oils, and their high EFA (essential fatty acid), vitamin and antioxidant content, they can penetrate deep below the skin’s lipid barrier to deliver moisture and skin nutrition for cell regeneration to work at its optimum.BalanceThere’s a common misconception that oil begets oil; that using a face oil will cause your skin to become too oily and lead to breakouts. This is incorrect: using a pure and organic plant oil can actually help cure breakouts and acne thanks to the balancing effect it has on the skin. Using conventional “oil-free” synthetic products that work to dry out your skin will simply strip the skin of its natural oils and cause it to produce even more oil as an attempt to compensate. Pores will become clogged, leading to pimples and acne. Applying a face oil to your skin, on the other hand, sends a message to your oil glands to stop producing sebum and therefore has an immediate balancing effect on the skin. Therefore, as well as delivering moisture and nutrition to dehydrated skin, it will also counteract oil production of overactive oil glands – so no matter the combination of your skin, an oil will adapt to, and help create balance for, all skin types.

Essential oils are complex mixtures of volatile constituents, biosynthesized by plants as a form of chemical defense – a natural response to the interaction with predators throughout millions of years of co-evolution.They have long been recognized for their antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant properties and combinations of essential oils have been used widely in the medicine and food industry to take advantage of the synergistic and additive effects they have when their isolated components are combined.Essential oils can be especially powerful as skincare agents, as mixing specific oils together with certain skin-healing properties can create a synergistic reaction, whereby the effect of the combined oils is greater than the sum of the individual effects. Essential oils contain phenols, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, esters, ethers and hydrocarbons. It is the complex interaction between these compounds that allows for their healing activity.Combinations of single essential oils can produce a range of interactive effects. The type of interactions and the mechanisms involved vary depending on the essential oils that are combined. The sequence of the blend (ie. the order you add each oil to the mix) can change the therapeutic qualities and the fragrance of the oil. The volatility, viscosity and therapeutic qualities of each individual essential oil is vital in being able to harmonize and synergise with the other essential oils in the blend. One drop too many of any single oil can upset everything. It has taken us over two years to reach the perfect synergistic blend to ensure that No.1 Nourishing Face Serum has the most potent skin-healing properties, together, importantly, with a scent that has the aromatherapeutic ability to lift the mind and promote feelings of calm and self love, whilst being gentle enough to use on even the most sensitive skin.
